Culloden Medical Practice

Samples and Test Results

Your doctor or nurse may ask you to hand in a sample to the Practice to send to the labs for testing.  This may be urine, stool or swabs.  Please do not hand in a sample if you haven’t spoken to a member of the clinical team.

Please ensure when you are returning a sample to the Practice, that you have your details including the date and time on the sample bottle or tube, the bag is sealed shut.  The admin team will check that this has been done when you hand this in – if these are incomplete, the lab will not accept the sample.

We ask that you hand in samples before 12 noon Monday-Friday.  The Raigmore Hospital drivers collect samples at 1pm everyday and this will ensure your sample does not sit overnight.  If it is left overnight, it may alter your test result and lead to a repeat sample being required.  Please do not hand in samples on a Friday afternoon as these will be left over the weekend and you will be asked to repeat this sample.  The only exception to this will be if it is an urgent test and your healthcare practitioner has asked you to hand this in as soon as possible.

If you are wanting to find out your test results, please call the practice between 2pm-5pm.  If you call before this time, you will be asked to call back after 2pm.

Results will not be given out at the reception desk due to confidentiality.

If the test was arranged by your hospital specialist-

If your test has been carried out at the request of a hospital doctor/consultant (at an out patient clinic at Raigmore Hospital, for example), please call the hospital for the result, as we cannot action tests which have been requested by a doctor/consultant out with the Practice. We don’t always have access to these results until the consultant sends it to us. It is the responsibility of the doctor/consultant who requested your test or investigation to interpret and give you the results and not your GP.
